The word keshi comes from keshinomi, the Japanese word for poppy seed. Keshi pearls do not have a nucleus (that little grain of sand that starts the nacre-making process); hence, they are entirely nacre. Because of their unique shape, they are often called “petal pearls” and feel soft on the skin.
